How to Install a Door Bottom | #DIY

Recently, I installed a new Frost King u-shaped door bottom, also known as a door sweep or a door threshold, to stop debris and water from entering my home. However, there are other benefits of installing a door bottom:

1. Energy Efficiency

  • Sealing Gaps: A door bottom helps seal the gap between the door and the floor, preventing drafts. This is especially beneficial in maintaining a consistent indoor temperature, reducing the need for heating and cooling, and ultimately lowering energy bills.
  • Reducing Heat Loss: By preventing warm air from escaping during winter and cool air from escaping during summer, a door bottom contributes to better home insulation.

2. Enhanced Comfort

  • Draft Prevention: Eliminating drafts make your living spaces more comfortable by maintaining a stable indoor environment, free from cold or hot spots near doors.
  • Noise Reduction: Door bottoms can help reduce noise infiltration, providing a quieter indoor environment by blocking sounds from outside or adjacent rooms.

3. Improved Indoor Air Quality

  • Dust and Pollen Reduction: Sealing gaps at the bottom of doors helps eliminate dust, pollen, and other airborne particles, contributing to better indoor air quality.
  • Pest Prevention: A properly installed door bottom functions as a barrier against insects and small rodents that might otherwise enter through gaps under the door.

4. Water Protection

  • Moisture Barrier: In areas prone to heavy rain or flooding, a door bottom can prevent water from seeping under the door, protecting your home’s interior from water damage and mold growth.

5. Enhanced Security

  • Barrier to Entry: A well-fitted door bottom can act as an additional barrier, making it harder for potential intruders to tamper with the door and gain access to your home.

6. Prolonged Door Life

  • Wear and Tear Reduction: By preventing debris and moisture from getting under the door, a door bottom can help reduce wear and tear on both the door and the flooring, extending their lifespan.

7. Aesthetic Improvement

  • Neat Appearance: Door bottoms come in various designs and finishes that can complement the aesthetic of your door, giving it a neat and finished look.

8. Easy Installation and Maintenance

  • Simple Installation: Many door bottoms are easy to install with basic tools, making them a practical DIY project for homeowners.
  • Low Maintenance: Once installed, door bottoms require minimal maintenance, usually just occasional cleaning to ensure they remain effective.

Types of Door Bottoms

Depending on the door you have and where you need to install one, it’s important to choose the right type of door bottom for your needs:

  • Sweeps: Attached to the bottom of the door, often made of rubber or silicone and designed to sweep the floor as the door moves.

  • Thresholds: Installed on the floor, providing a raised barrier that the door closes against.

  • Automatic Door Bottoms: These retract when the door is opened and seal tightly when the door is closed, providing a more sophisticated solution.

How to Use Vigoro No-Dig Landscape Edging Kit #intheGarden

I am progressing even more in my garden, as I get it ready for more fruits and vegetables. I decided to use the Vigoro No-Dig Landscape Edging Kit in the garden to prepare the area for placing landscape fabric and then mulch. I also needed to define the spaces within my garden for planting sunflower seeds and my zinnias. The product comes with everything you need and if you need to purchase more stakes that's possible too. I used what was provided in the box. The instructions recommended using a rubber mallet, however, I just used a hammer and it worked nicely. The job was a quick one so this video is pretty quick as well. I will keep you posted on the next steps in this project as I continue to prepare the space for this year's growing season. I found this Vigoro product in my local hardware store, but you can find it on Amazon as well.

How To Do Inspire Diagnostics At Home Health Test for #Cruise Travel

I recently took a 3-day cruise aboard Carnival Radiance from Long Beach, CA, to relax and recharge before I start my new career journey. My last cruise vacation was before the Covid-19 outbreak. First, I had to get tested for Covid-19 before my embarkation date in order to board the ship. On Carnival's website, here, they provide Vaccinated Voyages information and great details on how they are providing assistance to all guests. As of this blog post, you can get tested on your departure date at the port or at home within 24-48 hours before your embarkation date. The rules are constantly changing, with the cruise lines following CDC guidance, so make sure to look over their website for new options for vaccinated and unvaccinated guests. After reviewing their website, I decided to take the

Inspire Diagnostics At-Home Health Test, which can be purchased online, then I scheduled my testing date and time. This test is approved by the CDC for emergency use and is approved by Carnival because it is a proctored test. Zoom was used to connect with an authorized individual from the Inspire team. The process can be completed in 20 mins or less. This option is available to fully vaccinated guests. Now, Carnival is providing Covid-19 testing at port for a minimal fee to vaccinated guests, sailing for shorter cruise dates, and testing to all other customers at another price point. In the video below, I will walk you through the entire process of purchasing your at-home test for your cruise and taking the Covid-19 test LIVE with an Inspire Diagnostics representative.

I have included timecodes below to help you sort through the video information if you would like to see a particular section of the video.

Timecodes for this video can be clicked from the description of this video if you watch from my YouTube channel. However, if watching from my blog, scan through the video to these times below to get to where you want to see a specific portion of the video.

How to Remove a Broken Sprinkler Riser #FixitYourself

I hope you are safe and well. This past week, while I was cutting the front lawn, I happened to bump too hard into one of the sprinkler heads. It broke off leaving some of the riser in the PVC pipe. I thought that I would have to dig up the sod around it, but luckily I did some research and digging, no pun intended and found an inexpensive tool, Orbit Plastic Riser Extractor, to remove the broken sprinkler riser. It worked really well for me and I show you how it works in this video.

Orbit Plastic Riser Extractor

You can purchase it on Amazon or you might can find it at your local hardware store. Thanks for watching and stay safe and well!

Video: How To Make Cranberry Sauce #Cooking #Vlog

Do you like cranberry sauce with your holiday dinner? If so, learn how to make cranberry sauce at home and get compliments from your guests. All you need is three (3) ingredients, a saucepan, and a large spoon for stirring. In the following video below, I share the how-to steps. You can make it fast and refrigerate it just in time for dinner or have it warm. Enjoy and Happy Holidays!

Ingredients you will need:
12oz. bag of fresh Cranberries
1 cup of orange juice
1 cup of sugar (use your favorite)

Instructions:
1. Add washed cranberries to a saucepan over high heat to start.

2. Then stir in the orange juice and sugar.

3. Let the mixture come to a boil and the cranberries will start to pop like popcorn. Keep stirring the sauce off and on. Do not leave it unattended.

4. Reduce your heat to medium-high or simmer and let cook down. I let my sauce cook down until it becomes a nice thick jelly consistency (see video). However, you can remove it from the stove earlier.

5. Transfer to a serving bowl and refrigerate or serve warm. This part is up to you.

Serves 6-8.

Enjoy and Happy Holidays!

#Sunday Time With God Episode 24: How To Accept Christ into Our Lives #Repentance #BibleDiscussion

In this Sunday Time With God Episode 24, we will learn how to accept Christ into our Lives through Repentance. What does it mean to repent?

Repent (verb):  feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one's        wrongdoing or sin

When we decide to live a life with Christ and cast all of our cares and worries on the Lord, we then must repent to the Lord so that he knows that we are serious. Living for Christ is not always easy but it is a blessed journey, when we have the most generous, gracious, and loving God by our side. He teaches us how to live and what His purpose is for our lives as we continue to grow in His Word and Live His Word each day. What's really amazing, is how unbiased God is when accepting us into his flock. He does not care about our age, race, gender, or how lost we have felt in our lives. He will receive the beggar, the alcoholic, the drug dealer, the unpopular kid in school, and anyone who wants to be saved by His grace. He wants to renew us from the inside out!

In the following video, go into more detail about repentance and accepting Christ into our lives. Use your Bible or a Bible app, to follow along with the scriptures mentioned in the video.

Bibles.com

♥ Luke 13:1-9
Luke 5:27-32
Acts 2:38-39

Since we must first repent of our sins and confess with our mouth and believe in our heart that the Lord died for our sins. Here is a little prayer for you to say below, to help you begin your new journey with Christ. If you were with Christ before and now want to come back to Him, this prayer is for you also!

I, [Your Name], accept you Lord God into my heart. I repent of my sins that I have committed and will work hard to be the (woman/man) of God that you desire for me to be from this day forward. Amen.

Saying this prayer of repentance is only the first step. Now you must begin to build your own personal relationship with Christ. Attend church or church functions with other Christians to learn even more about Christ. Being among like-minded individuals will make your walk with Christ stronger over time. Find Christian groups online, on social media, that really makes you feel welcomed. There are some really cool Christians out there, living for and serving the Lord. Good Luck to you on your newly-found journey in Christ!!!

♥Have a blessed week!
