Are You Getting Enough #Calcium, Ladies?

Are You Getting Enough Calcium, Ladies?

We have heard it time and time again from our mothers and doctors alike, the importance of calcium in our daily diet as women. When I was a little girl, I found my calcium in the milk I drank at school, from cheese, and other foods prepared at home. However, as one gets older and become more inclined to listen to news studies and read the latest and greatest in fashion magazines, you soon realize that you only knew half of the story. Surprisingly, women lose more calcium as we continue to get older. Because of this, we must replenish the calcium lost in our bodies to protect our bones and teeth for the long-term journey of our lives.

Many others, including myself, are taking calcium supplements for women. As an actress with so many future goals and ambitions, it is really important for me to bring my best to every audition and it begins with me taking care of my bones which keeps me going strong. There are SO many brands to choose from. Just do a Google Search and you will have more than you need to research and discover. Or, how about while you're walking through your local pharmacy, there are just SO many calcium supplements. However, what's most important is to make sure that you are taking enough calcium that is recommended for women.

Luckily, I was recently introduced to who specializes in an array of vitamin supplements for women and provides detailed information to help support a healthy overall body. You can 'Shop by Concern' on their website and see all of the different nutritional tools they have available to you.

They even have a Calcium Support page which I used to learn more about the importance of calcium; their basic calcium formulas, bone building formulas, and discussions on the basics of calcium.

Ship Calcium Supplements To Your Home can ship my calcium supplements to my home and it takes no time to arrive. Many of their customers say that they receive their supplements in the mail within two days. This beats going to the local pharmacy every time you want to pick up your vitamins. Why not have them delivered to your home!

Being a Vegetarian Woman

Also, being a woman with a vegetarian lifestyle makes it very important for me to get my daily calcium consumption. I don't drink milk anymore and have changed over to soy milk. I also try to get calcium enriched foods as well, but to be safe I use the calcium supplements for women which do the job.

I plan to live healthy and strong for a long time. If so, my bones need to stay as healthy as my mind. It's important to get into the act of doing it now before we reach senior age.

Salsa #Dancing, My Favorite Pastime

It was April of 2011, when I was introduced to Salsa Dancing and never looked back.

I have always loved to dance. I have enjoyed jazz, ballet, hip hop, reggae, and modern dancing. When I am dancing, I lose myself and feel this chill up and down my spine and in my body. I release SO much tension and feel SO much better after. Working on an acting career and balancing life responsibilities can get hectic at times so you really need an outlet. I found that outlet in salsa after being invited to a class by one of my actor friends who knew the salsa instructor.

The energy in the room while dancing salsa is just amazing! There are even many levels of salsa dancers and I find myself learning new and exciting moves when I interact with others. Sometimes, I even find it relaxing to watch others dance.

With the right shoes and openness to want to learn, you can be on your way to learning too!

If you are not familiar with Salsa, watch this brief video to see how normal, everyday people, dance to Salsa. They are getting down in the background, aren't they?

Salsa dancing is a great way to get away from the hectic stresses of your job, intense deadlines, and to go out with your girlfriends or the guys. What I really appreciate about salsa is the many ethnicities that it attracts. It also attracts people of all ages: Teens, young adults and senior citizens. If you can dance to the salsa beat, then you are gold!

Here I am, pictured below, with some fabulous and beautiful lady friends of mine who all absolutely "love" salsa! Some of them go salsa dancing almost every night! There is always a salsa location to venture out to.

And ladies, if you're into styling, then the best asset to have is in the shoes!! Here are some great examples of salsa shoes to get yourself ready for your first salsa class. Click on a particular shoe to get the details.

If you are a busy man who needs a good workout, then Salsa is the dance to do it for you too! There are so many beautiful ladies who would enjoy dancing with a gentleman with the passion for this dance. Here are some styles of shoes for you as well:

Anyone can dance salsa if you have an open mind. You must know that in everything you are learning for the first time, you must keep trying and working to improve. The Salsa community is growing each and every day and there is definitely a place for you to join in. Look for salsa beginner classes in your community. Before you know it, you'll be like me, just as passionate and ready to get on the dance floor when I hear the salsa sounds playing.

Are you dancing salsa? Would you like to try? Share your thoughts in a comment. I'd love to read them.

#Argo is a Must-See #Film!

If you haven't seen it or heard about it, Argo is a Must-See Film!

I found myself reading the LA Times review, in the Calendar section, of the film Argo. I had already seen the trailer and it was catching my interest. Being an aspiring actress and filmmaker of shorts, I wanted to know how Ben Affleck would pull this off and work from both sides of the camera to create this story based on true events. So without further delay I decided to go see a Saturday matinee of the film.

From the very beginning of Argo I was hooked! I really enjoyed the illustrated, historical, element in the beginning and then the historical footage that was captured from past sources to bring me into the main meat of the story. The characters were then introduced, including Ben Affleck's character, Tony Mendez, who executed the plan to get the Americans out of Iran. I really enjoyed the complicated energy of the film from Tony Mendez's character as a father and husband to his uncut perspectives during the round-table on how to recover the Americans. I suddenly began to wonder how political decisions are made today when urgent demands are put on our country. It has to be just as interesting, jaw-dropping, and sometimes ridiculous before the ultimate decisions are made.

Also, the comedic timing was brilliant and not overpowering to the mission of the film, throughout. They appeared as flyaways while the action of the film continued moving right along. I was in the Laemmle Theater with a lot of older adults and the comedic jabs were met with laughs. I seriously felt like I took a journey back into the 80s when movies were being made and negotiated in Hollywood, but not without the charm and sense of humors of Alan Arkin and John Goodman. I took a backseat and watched the operation unfold before my eyes. There were some really funny one-liners in the film, for example:
"A town where everyone lies for a living." referencing Hollywood
"If I'm doing a fake movie, I'm doing a fake hit!"
This film was 2 hours long, but I couldn't feel it at all! I never wanted to reach for my IPhone to see the time. The editing was really great too! Kudos to the editing team.

Since I am not an intentional Spoiler-type, all I will say about the end is: I was in the moment with this film so deep that I felt a headache coming on because even though the ending was obvious, my mind was following along in every moment. All I can say is when the plane was gearing up for take-off, that was a seriously long moment of anticipation and holding of my breath as I stared into the movie screen. WOW!

Argo is definitely a film worth every minute and Oscar-worthy.

What a nice afternoon at the movies.

If you happen to go see it, tell me what you thought about it in a comment below!

Balancing a J-O-B and #Acting Auditions

If there is one skill you learn as an actor, it's multitasking and learning how to balance a J-O-B and acting auditions! A couple of days ago, I was headed to my job to take a senior citizen to her doctors appointment 30 mins away from her home when out of nowhere I received a text message for an audition!

I was in traffic and my initial call time was 2:30pm and I had to be at her house at 1:00pm. How in the world was I going to make this audition and get her 30 minutes to her doctor's office and back home? The wheels in my head were turning so fast! However, I calmed my mind and realized to myself, as I always say, there is a solution to every problem.

Since I work for a caregiver agency I had a pretty flexible position. However, this time I had to follow-through on her appointment. The only thing I had left to do was to call my agent to see if the time could be changed. I have never done this before and only heard about it. Surprisingly, my agent was really understanding and made an effort to contact the casting office to get the time changed to 4:00pm.

I was half relieved but still thought about the fact that I had to pick up my senior and get her to the doctor's office and back home safely and then down to the audition.

Suddenly, all the voices in my head STOPPED!

It was complete silence...

I realized in that moment that everything that was happening to me on that day was divinely planned. Everything would work out and it all was happening for a reason. I then told myself,"I will focus on the task of getting my senior to her doctor's appointment and back home safely. Then I will take care of my second task of getting to my audition." Once I let go of the worrisome thoughts and just went with the flow of things, I felt better and to my own surprise I arrived right on time to the audition and there were SO many other talented actors and actresses in the room, waiting too! Everything happened according to a plan out of my control. Once I decided to let go and just do, everything worked itself out.

All I can say is if you are an actor, looking to balance a J-O-B and acting auditions, be open to the unexpected. Find a job that will be receptive to your ultimate career plans and will be open and flexible. Everyone in this business has to pay bills and buy food. It's a part of the process of living so there is nothing wrong with having a J-O-B, but make sure that you stay focused on your ultimate plan. Make sure the J-O-B is not consuming your creative opportunities or you will eventually get frustrated and envious.

Secondly, make sure that your relationship with your agent is positive. If you are uncomfortable with sharing what's going on with you in the heat of the moment, then maybe that's not the agent for you. If your agent understands your situation, they can help to make sure that you are in that audition room by hopefully getting your time moved down or up if that's okay with the casting office.

Lastly, trust your intuition and know that you are in the right place at the right time. Everything happens for a reason to teach us something and to make us a better person for the road we must continue to travel on this journey as actors and actresses. What we believe is a situation, is nothing really and can be solved if we stop, take a breath, and let go of our preconceived plans. Then our solutions will appear.

I'm curious, "What job are you working while pursuing your acting career?"

The #Hunger to Keep Going - What Type of #Actor are You?

It was said right, "When the going gets tough, the tough gets going."

When you possess the hunger to keep going when times are not going according to "your" plan, then you know you have arrived. Two weekends ago now, I began acting in the fan film, Halo:The Fallen and really getting down and committed to my role as gunny.

Actress Selena Brown with Director, Xerxes Sangco

Since this time, I have felt the hunger inside of me grow tremendously to want even more from my acting journey. I desire to create even more short films and write even more scripted content that I find interesting to share with others through my production company, SVB Productions

My desire to get back out there to continue the mission is ingrained so deep within me, for this project and future ones to come. My hunger to keep going is what keeps me focused and drives me to not measure my progress by watching the progress of others but to celebrate where I am, how far I've come, and where I am going in MY future.

Actress Selena Brown with Actor Chris Rymer

I always tell myself and say to others,"it only takes one opportunity to change your life," when someone asks me about acting. I can't sit here and tell you that 'the one opportunity' will come as soon as you enter the business, but I will tell you that if you maintain your hunger for this career, set your own goals, focus on what YOU want and NOT what you DON'T want, and believe that you are good enough despite the critics, you will eventually find the opportunity.

No matter how far you venture into your career as an actor, believe me, it will be a learning experience. You will learn what not to do, how to respond to different people and how to be the bigger person in some situations. No one's acting career or journey will be the same. However, know that it is a part of the process of finding who you are and what you stand for as an actor.

What type of actress am I? I am just one person with a hunger to be the best actress I can be in any given opportunity allotted me.

What type of actor are you?
