During my Mediterranean cruise, I visited the beach town of Kusadasi in Turkey. There are many places to visit and things to see. The area is beautiful and very modern. I also visited popular destinations, including The House of the Virgin Mary, The Basilica of St John the Apostle, and Ephesus, an ancient city with excavations reporting from classical Greece to the Roman Empire.

Video Blog: Visiting Chania, Crete in Greece on Cruise

Chania Old Town, along the waterfront

Cruising is a fantastic way to see various cities in international waters. This time, I had the opportunity to visit Chania, a city in Crete. We were supposed to visit Santorini; however, the cable cars were being repaired while we were passing through, so we were redirected to Chania. This city is charming, and the waterfront along Chania Old Town is breathtaking, even in the rain. In the video below, I share a brief recap of my time in Chania. Happy travels!

Cruise Vlog: Stateroom Breakfast and Shore Excursion to Pompeii in Naples, Italy

Naples, Italy, is where I traveled to visit the once bustling city of Pompeii. The culture and their daily happenings were insightful and eye-opening. In the cruise vlog below, I visited the city through a Mediterranean cruise I booked aboard the Sun Princess with Princess Cruises. The morning started off with a stateroom breakfast, then an early morning start to Pompeii. I enjoyed every minute of this shore excursion, and the weather was perfect for a light jacket in February.

Traveling has always been an exciting experience for me, and I hope to continue doing so in the years to come. Enjoy this video blog, and happy travels to you.

Vlog: Travel Day to Rome | Transfer and Cruise Embarkation on Sun Princess

Sun Princess cruise ship

I traveled to Rome for a 10-day inaugural cruise aboard the Sun Princess. To make my travel simple, I purchased the transfers provided by Princess Cruises. Once I arrived at the port, I checked my bags at security, then checked in and boarded the Sun Princess. It was all very straightforward. The embarkation night was easy-going, with main dining, live entertainment thereafter, and a comfortable bed to recharge.

In the video below, I completed a room tour of the deluxe room with a balcony, explained muster, and was very pleased with the vegan options in the main dining room.

Slutty Vegan Review | Eating Vegan With My Bestie in Atlanta, Georgia (ATL)

Recently, I visited my bestie in Atlanta, Georgia. We decided to try the Slutty Vegan restaurant together since she had never gone there before and I was vegan. Upon entering the establishment the music was playing and it was a casual atmosphere. The staff were working hard, dropping the french fries in the hot oil to prepare their Slutty Fries, preparing various sandwiches on the menu, and to-go orders. While waiting for our food order, we observed the dessert truck display and the merch on the walls.

There was limited seating at the Slutty Vegan Edgewood location so we decided to go to the park to eat and see what we thought about our food purchases. As we left, we noticed the line had become longer as more guests came in for the noon food rush.

In the video below we reviewed their Hooker Fries, The Fussy Hussy, and Project Chik sandwiches. All sandwiches included the seasoned Slutty Fries.

Visiting La Purisima Mission: A Perfect Blend of Nature and History #TravelVlog

La Purisima Mission in Lompoc, CA

La Purisima Mission, a hidden gem offering natural beauty and cultural heritage, is tucked away in the tranquil Lompoc Valley. This beautifully preserved mission, which dates back to 1787, is a refuge for nature enthusiasts as well as a testament to California's rich past. Whether you're interested in nature, and history, or just need a quiet place to unwind, a trip to La Purisima Mission is sure to be unforgettable.

A Journey Through History

One of the twenty-one Spanish missions in California, La Purisima Mission is a living museum. Upon entering the grounds, you are immediately thrust back in time to the late eighteenth century. The painstakingly reconstructed structures and artifacts of the mission offer a realistic depiction of Chumash and Spanish settlers' everyday lives. Every building, including the blacksmith shop and the church, conveys a tale of resiliency, faith, and community.

Chumash People with Spanish Settlers

For individuals who wish to delve more into the history of the mission, guided tours are offered. A wealth of fascinating stories about the mission's origin, its role in the spread of Christianity, and its significance in the history of the region are told by knowledgeable docents. Don't pass up the opportunity to see live demonstrations of old crafts and talents that will transport you back in time.

Hiking Trails and Natural Beauty

Hiker's delight, La Purisima Mission is more than just a historical landmark. More than 2,000 acres of undulating hills, verdant meadows, and peaceful forests encircle the mission and provide a range of pathways suitable for hikers of all experience levels. The varied flora and animals you'll come across while strolling along these routes make it an ideal location for birdwatching and nature photography.

The La Purisima Red Loop track, a moderate 4.5-mile hike that passes through some of the property's most picturesque areas, is one well-liked track. The walk offers breathtaking views of the valley and the mission as it travels through beautiful scenery. Try the ADA-accessible Mission Loop Trail for a more leisurely, shorter walk. It offers a peaceful 1-mile meander around the mission grounds.

A Cultural Experience

More than merely a historical tour, a visit to La Purisima Mission is an immersion into the local culture. The mission celebrates the history of the Spanish colonists and Chumash people all year long with a variety of events and programs. There's usually something going on to make your visit more enjoyable, from dance performances and traditional Chumash storytelling to life-like reenactments of missions.

The yearly La Purisima Mission Day, where guests can engage in interactive activities, witness live demonstrations, and savor regional cuisine and music, is one of the highlights. It's a wonderful chance to interact with the locals and discover the cultural customs that have influenced the area.

Planning Your Visit

2295 Purisima Road, Lompoc, CA 93436 is the address of La Purisima Mission. The mission is open every day, though the visitor center and guided tours have different hours. Although there are small admission costs, the experience is well worth the money.

Make sure to check the mission's website for any special events or closures before you depart. Bring plenty of water, comfy walking shoes, and a picnic to eat in one of the approved sites. Remember to bring your camera as well, since there are tons of photo opportunities around the mission!

A trip to La Purisima Mission is an adventure into the past and present. There, the allure of the Californian scenery enthralls your senses as history is brought to life. Discovering the rich history of the mission, taking a hike on its beautiful trails, or taking part in cultural events can all help you develop a greater respect for this amazing location. Visited Ostrichland USA in Solvang, California

Ostrichland USA sign in Solvang California

I recently took a road trip to Solvang, California, and discovered an ostrich and emus farm right outside of the Danish-themed town. The place was called Ostrichland USA. The ostriches and emus had a lot of land to roam and get plenty of treats from the guests. They were not aggressive but they enjoyed their food so hold the handle to your bowl tightly. Some of the ostriches got very excited and flapped their winds rapidly running back and forth along the fencing, a sight to behold. The weather was perfect with partly cloudy skies. I spent about 20-30 minutes on the farm and enjoyed the photographic views that blanketed the farm for the ostriches and emus to enjoy. There were many groups of people who visited the farm, including families with children so it's definitely a kid-friendly place. Thereafter, I went to the Ostrichland gift shop and picked up a refrigerator magnet to remember this place during my visit.

Ostriches on the farm

The video below shares my visit, admissions information, rules for feeding, and the setup of the farm at Ostrichland USA. Enjoy!

Visting Ojai, CA for My Birthday Trip

In this video below, I am visiting Ojai, CA for my birthday trip. I was SO busy during the week on my actual birthday, June 9th, that I had to celebrate during the weekend and explore then too. I like to do something new and different when my birthday comes around. I enjoy learning new things and discovering new places, so I decided to visit Ojai, CA. My good friend enjoyed her visit so I thought that I would make it my travel destination for this year. First, I took a hike in Rose Valley Falls, which led to a beautiful waterfall, hidden in the woods. It was the most memorable part of my trip. Then we ate at a vegan restaurant, checked out some of the shops, and the day was fast approaching evening so we had to get on the road to head back home. I had a pleasant birthday and am very thankful to see another year.

Have you been to Ojai, CA? What did you think? Share in the comments below.

Thanks for watching! Stay safe and well.

#Travel Vlog: Mining Town in Jerome, Arizona Became a Ghost Town

I hope you are feeling healthy and safe at home. I decided to edit some more footage from the Arizona road trip I took in November 2019. This travel vlog shows our visit to a mining town in Jerome, Arizona.

According to historical facts, Jerome was built on top of what was the largest copper mine in Arizona. It produced three million pounds of copper per month, with the mines eventually closing in 1953. Creative artists came to Jerome after it was left a ghost town and transformed it into a successful historical attraction, including boutiques and shops. Now many people visit this unique town on their road trip through Arizona.

Have you been yet? If so, share your experience in the comment section below. If not, I recommend putting it on your bucket list of places to visit.

You may want to try the popular Bobby D's BBQ and Grill while you're there. They have salads for the vegan folks like me too.

#Travel Vlog: Bearizona Wildlife Park in Williams Arizona

Today I was reminded of how beautiful and relaxing it is to spend time in nature and among animals too. This past November, I had the opportunity to go on a road trip through parts of Arizona, stopping at various places. We had a great time and the Bearizona Wildlife Park was fun, exciting, and a learning experience. It's perfect for the entire family, with a drive-through park and a walk-through section, similar to a zoo.

In the video below, I'm going to share with you our experience visiting the park, but I recommend that you put this place on your list of travels-to-come. We may be living in a state of quarantine right now, but it will not last forever. We will be able to venture back out in nature together, exploring, discovering, and enjoying all of nature's beauty.

#TravelVlog: Day One in Beijing China | Summer Palace and Fast Food

Welcome back to Selena Thinking Out Loud for my travel video blog of day one in Beijing, China. I had the opportunity to visit the country in July 2018 through the international study abroad component of my master's degree program at Mt. Saint Mary's University. Last week, I shared with you the various vegan meals I had on board Asiana Airlines. If you missed that video, you can click here to watch

In the following video below, you are going to get a glimpse into which fast food chains are popular in China. You will see how they meet the demand, provide good customer service, and anytime access to their food options. Then you will go with me to the Summer Palace in northwest Beijing to see the imperial garden that was in the Qing Dynasty! We will end our day one adventure with a walk to dinner and a quick observation of the stores to shop until you drop.

Stay Tuned...
Next, we are walking up the Great Wall and more during Day Two in Beijing, China!
