Installing a Honeywell T2 Non-Programmable Thermostat for the Home

Summer days are upon us and I decided to replace my old thermostat with a simpler one from Honeywell. I didn't want a thermostat with too many bells and whistles, but one that focused on heating and cooling aspects. 

The Honeywell T2 Non-Programmable Thermostat can switch automatically between cooling and heating depending on the temperature in your home. This setting can be switched on or off at your discretion. I found the installation process to be easy and straightforward but the instruction guide provides advanced setup information if your home thermostat system is more complex.

Vegan Lasagna Roll-Ups with Tofu and Spinach (Video Recipe)

I loved these vegan lasagna roll-ups filled with tofu and spinach. When my casserole dish came out of the oven and I lifted the aluminum foil I was so excited for my first bite...mmm. This is a meat-free dish with vegan cheese by Violife. I enjoy preparing wholesome meals on Sundays so this one was a winner. Vegan food does not have to be bland and boring. This video recipe proves that 100% plant-based meals can be 100% satisfying.

Here are the ingredients to make the Vegan Lasagna Roll-Ups.

1. Pasta sauce (I used the Classico brand)

2. Lasagna noodles 

3. Firm tofu

4. Frozen bag of spinach

5. Onion

6. Lemon

7. Vegan cheese (I used Violife this time)

8. Bragg Nutritional Yeast

9. Seasoning (use your favorites for flavor)

10. Optional: olive oil

Directions to make the vegan lasagna roll-ups.

Many ingredients in this recipe can be added according to your personal preference. There is no right or wrong way. It's an easy-to-make recipe. In the video below, you will see that I sprinkled the seasoning in my bowl and then tasted the tofu mixture. There are no particular measurements, just my preferred taste.

1. Boil your lasagna noodles for approximately  6-7 minutes, ensuring you do not fully cook them. They will be finished in the oven while the vegan cheese is melting. Once the lasagna noodles are bendable drain the water and rinse them with cold water to stop the cooking. Set aside.

2. Chop one onion into small pieces and set aside.

3. Place your frozen bag of spinach in the microwave and heat according to the instructions on the bag. If you do not have a microwave, use a pot of boiling water and boil your spinach according to the instructions on the bag. Set aside.

4.  In a mixing bowl add your drained and squeezed tofu (remove as much water as you can), spinach, onions, nutritional yeast, and seasonings. Crumble the tofu into small pieces as you mix everything together.

5. Ladle some pasta sauce onto the bottom of your casserole dish. My casserole dish is  13x6 inches, but you can adjust this to what you have.

6. Lay your cooked lasagna noodles on a clean surface (I used a cutting board). Place the tofu mixture on each lasagna noodle, evenly spreading the mixture.

7. Roll up each lasagna noodle and place the seam-side-down in your casserole dish. Continue this step until all lasagna noodles are in rows in your baking dish.

8. Add your remaining pasta sauce on top of all the lasagna roll-ups (this will ensure that your pasta finishes cooking), and sprinkle your vegan cheese. Optional: drizzle olive oil and additional seasoning across the top of the lasagna roll-ups for added flavor. 

9. Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, covered with aluminum foil. (Vegan cheese takes longer to melt so I usually add 15 minutes to my cooking time, which brought this recipe to 1 hour). The aluminum foil locks in the heat so the vegan cheese melts well.

Memorial Day, which falls on the final Monday in May, is a somber occasion to commemorate and pay tribute to the courageous men and women who gave their lives defending our country. While many people take part in ceremonies, parades, and family get-togethers, there are other meaningful ways to honor these soldiers in your home decor. 

These are some thoughtful and original suggestions for Memorial Day decorations for your house. Personally, as a military veteran, decorating my home is a way for me to remember and show my respect and appreciation to my fellow servicemen and servicewomen who lost their lives during their time in service to our great country.

1. Display the American Flag Proudly

The most identifiable representation of respect and patriotism is the American flag. Here are some pointers on how to present it properly:

• Front Porch Flag: Hang a flag on your front porch or balcony. Ensure it’s illuminated if you plan to leave it up after dark.

• Flagpole: If you have a flagpole, raise the flag to half-staff until noon, then to full-staff for the remainder of the day, as is traditional on Memorial Day.

• Window Flags: Small window flags or decals can also show your patriotic spirit and remembrance.

2. Create a Memorial Day Wreath

A wreath on your front door is a welcoming and respectful decoration. You can make or purchase a wreath with elements such as:

• Red, White, and Blue Flowers: Use artificial or fresh flowers in patriotic colors.

• Mini Flags: Incorporate small American flags into the wreath.

• Stars and Stripes: Add ribbons or fabric in star and stripe patterns for an extra touch.

3. Patriotic Flower Arrangements

Floral arrangements are a beautiful way to honor Memorial Day. Consider these ideas:

5 Benefits of Using Peel and Stick Tile #DIYProject

Recently, I completed another DIY project and decided to use peel and stick tile for a kitchen backsplash. The option seemed more budget-friendly and the flexibility of using peel and stick tile was on my list of reasons. I went to my local hardware store and came across Smart Tiles. This product has a Gel-O technology which the company explains does not turn yellow or crack over time. After researching other competitor products I decided to purchase some from Smart Tiles. However, this peel and stick tile cannot be used on textured walls and I have orange peel walls so I found a product called Mussel Bound to put down on my kitchen wall first, which acted as a barrier and smooth surface for me. Initially, I was going to sand the walls but decided I would rather find another workaround to avoid the sand dust going everywhere. In the end, the Mussel Bound worked for me and I completed this peel and stick install in two days. It looks great and I'm so happy with the final result. Mussel Bound is used for traditional tile applications and is a much cleaner option. If you're looking to apply traditional tile, Mussel Bound would be a good option because it acts as a double-sided tape and it sticks well, not going anywhere. It is made to last for a long time.
